U.S. Senator Steve Daines has expressed support for a new trade agreement between the United States and India. Daines recently visited India from January 17 to 19, where he met with Indian officials in New Delhi, including Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal. He also held discussions with members of parliament as well as U.S. and Indian business leaders.
In his statement, Daines said, “Today’s agreement is a tremendous step in the right direction, a win for all sides, and I commend President Trump and Prime Minister Modi for getting it done. India is the fourth largest economy in the world and increased access to its market will benefit the American economy, including American agriculture.
“In addition, India’s agreement to buy oil from the United States instead of Russia is not just an economic benefit to the U.S. but sends a signal around the world that the United States means business when it comes to leveling the playing field as well as putting an end to the war in Ukraine. There is still more to do to correct America’s trade imbalances and I look forward to helping President Trump achieve his goals through the remainder of his administration.”
