The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) announced on Mar. 31 the launch of a new website to help residents understand upcoming changes to the state’s Medicaid program.

The update follows recent legislative action and federal law H.R. 1, which will require certain Medicaid Expansion participants in Montana to meet new community engagement standards starting July 1, 2026. The website aims to provide clear information about these requirements for current and future Medicaid members.

“Our priority is to ensure that Montanans covered by Medicaid Expansion have the information they need to make decisions about their health care,” DPHHS Director Charlie Brereton said. “This new website serves as a single source of truth for our members as we begin requiring them to engage in work or work-related activities to be eligible for health coverage.”

According to DPHHS, adults aged 19–64 who are not exempt must complete at least 80 hours per month of community engagement activities—such as employment, community service, workforce training programs, internships or apprenticeships, and educational courses—to remain eligible for coverage beginning July 2026. The department said exemptions will apply for individuals unable to meet these requirements.

DPHHS is conducting outreach via mail so that all affected members receive information about the changes and important deadlines. Members are encouraged to verify their contact details at apply.mt.gov so they do not miss critical updates.

The department advances healthy living conditions through evidence-based programs across communities according to its official website. It oversees facilities like the Montana State Hospital and veterans’ homes providing specialized care according to its official website. DPHHS also aims to enhance well-being and independence through integrated services according to its official website and features direction from an executive team focused on strategic oversight according to its official website. Its supports reach statewide communities from mountains to plains according to its official website, building healthier communities with local partnerships according to its official website.
