Montana voters will have the opportunity to vote for Green Party candidates for the U.S. House and Senate, governor, attorney general, and one seat in the Montana State Senate.

In 2018, the Montana Democratic Party had the Green Party removed from the ballot.

There are currently two Green Party candidates for the U.S. Senate: Dennis Daneke, a former union organizers and retired professor; and Wendie Fredrickson, former state audit reviewer. John Gibney of Hamilton, a retiree, is running for the U.S. House; Robert Barb of Billings is the Green Party candidate for governor; Roy Davis of Helena is running for attorney general; and Gary Marbut of Missoula is running for a state Senate seat.

Just over 40 petition signatures (43 total) were disqualified based on subjective handwriting comparison or errors in clerical procedures, and several candidates were removed from the ballot, according to Doug Campbell, who ran as the Montana Green Party candidate for U.S. Congress in 2018.

During a 2018 hearing, the Chief Financial Officer for the Montana Democratic Party explained why they wanted the Green Party off the ballot.

“We would have to spend resources in numerous ways. We would have to put more – calibrate our voter file differently. We would have to put more resources on the ground to knock on different doors than we normally would. We would have to put out more expensive, more complicated polling. We would have to – we would have to hold more fundraisers, spend more resources trying to gather more money to pay for all of these things,” said Trent Bolger.

Daneke and Fredrickson will face off in June to determine who will be on the November ballot.
