U.S. Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) said the voice of Montana was heard "loud and clear" with his reelection.

Daines, who was first elected as Senator in 2014, defeated Gov. Steve Bullock, a Democrat, during the 2020 general election. In a victory speech streamed live on Daines' Facebook page in the early morning hours of Nov. 4, he thanked Montanans for choosing him to represent them in Washington, D.C. for the next six years.

Daines said it was a night for celebration, but also time to get back to work.

He called this election unprecedented and said the state had never seen a political race of this magnitude.

"I'm grateful that the good common sense, the good horse sense of Montanans didn't listen to all that out-of-state money from Chuck Schumer," Daines said during his speech.

Daines also congratulated U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte (R) who won the governor's race.

He said now that the election is over, it's time to come together as both Montanans and Americans to address the immediate challenges the state faces like combating COVID-19 while protecting the state's communities and economy.

"I'm going to continue to work with our new governor for solutions and ensure that our government is working for the people," Daines said during his victory speech.

He told a room of supporters his goal over the next six years will be much of his focus in his past term. They include fighting for good, high-paying jobs, standing up for veterans and defending the right to bear arms.

"We need to also protect our access to our public lands. We need to fight for our farmers and our ranchers. We need to protect the unborn," he said during his speech. "I will always stand to make sure we protect those who are most vulnerable in our society and that's the unborn, the disabled and the elderly."
