As flooding in the Yellowstone area has impacted resident access to safe drinking water, Natural Grocers in Billings, Montana, is offering to supply free filtered water through June 30.
Power outages have plagued the Yellowstone area and hundreds of homes have been damaged due to extensive flooding, according to a June 16 press release. The flooding has also impacted water treatment plants, forcing many local municipalities in Montana to issue boil water orders to prevent people from drinking contaminated water.
In response to the shortage of drinking water, Natural Grocers recently announced it will provide free filtered water from its Billings store to affected residents for free through June 30.
"We are here to support our community as we navigate this disaster together,” said Regional Manager for Natural Grocers, Mat Topham, in the release. “Please spread the word to friends and neighbors. We are thankful for your business and hope this can help you and your family during these hard times."
Heavy rains unleashed record flooding and rockslides resulting in the closure of Yellowstone National Park, Reuters reported. Several communities that surround the park were also impacted. With the Yellowstone River overflowing, the National Park Service called the rainfall and flooding an "unprecedented" event.
Natural Grocers is a specialty retailer of natural and organic groceries, body care products, and dietary supplements, according to its website.
