Analysis: Montana ranked #36 for gun sales in 2022

Montana ranked #36 for guns sales in 2022, with an estimated 134,139 guns sold, according to federal data compiled in a new report by SafeHome.org.

Approximately 17.4 million guns were sold in the U.S. in 2022, according to the report, which analyzed data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Criminal Background Check System. 

Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming had the highest estimated gun sales per capita in 2022, and gun sales rose year over year in only three places: Iowa, the District of Columbia, and Oregon, said the report.
