A supplemental tuition waiver for the Montana National Guard and Montana Air National Guard was unanimously approved by the Montana Board of Regents recently.
The waiver will allow qualifying members of the reserve military force to combine the supplemental tuition with existing G.I. Bill and tuition assistance entitlements providing full financial aid packages for higher education in the Montana university system.
“I’m happy to announce that the board of regents approved this policy last week … The leadership of the Montana National Guard has been advocating for this benefit for years on behalf of our soldiers and airmen,” said Maj. Gen. Matthew T. Quinn, the adjutant general of Montana in the Sidney Herald.
Additionally, the regents acknowledged that the policy included the coverage of out-of-state tuition but is a tuition-specific waiver and coursework or programming fees are not eligible.
Arguably, the waiver will make Montana more competitive with surrounding states such as North Dakota, Utah and Wyoming, which already offer waivers to National Guard members the Sidney Herald reported.
