University of Montana issued the following announcement.
Introduction
As we publish the University of Montana Healthy Fall 2020 Plan, the novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) has been confirmed in nearly every country and territory, with millions of cases worldwide. This global pandemic has disrupted every sector of society, including higher education in Montana. Last spring, COVID-19 prompted the Montana University System to switch to remote instruction to complete the semester. At the same time, plans were initiated to design a return to on-campus living and learning for the fall semester.
This plan represents thoughtful and collaborative efforts to incorporate the best medical information about COVID-19, the current guidelines for workplace safety, instructional design for a variety of delivery modalities, protocols for campus living, procedures for research and important considerations for facilities, campus safety, transportation, housing, dining, athletics and events.
The University of Montana Healthy Fall 2020 Plan is the result of hundreds of hours of research, discussion and design, guided by university faculty, staff, student and administrative leaders. The plan is informed by health experts within UM’s College of Health in collaboration with local hospitals, the Missoula City-County Public Health Department, the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services. Together, we’ve created a framework for the fall that provides guidance for all aspects of campus operations, yet allow us to remain flexible and adaptive as new information or best practices emerge regarding COVID-19.
UM’s Healthy Fall 2020 plan follows the guidance issued by Montana’s Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, “Montana University System Healthy Fall 2020: Planning Guidelines for Campuses,” which provides essential items and planning considerations to aid campuses in developing their specific plans for fall.
