City of Livingston issued the following announcement.
The City of Livingston was notified by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration of their decision not to require a payback of federal funds given to the City for the underpass project at Star Rd. The City of Livingston had made a formal request through the Montana Department of Transportation asking the Federal Highway Administration to terminate the official federal aid project associated with the underpass and waive reimbursement of the $916,800 in federal funding. After reviewing the justification provided by the City for ending the original project, the Federal Highway Administration agreed that the change in conditions in Livingston and the positive results already realized by the expenditure of the federal funds justified not requiring the payback of the almost $1M. The City of Livingston would like to thank the Montana Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration for their willingness to review the City’s request and for the assistance from the Montana Department of Transportation in submitting the request. Saving the Livingston taxpayers almost $1M is a great example of the collaborative working relationships established with State and Federal Agencies, and of the City Commission working tirelessly on difficult problems and the changing environment of the community.
