Social media censorship could backfire

The cancellation of social media accounts by Big Tech has been a rising concern in the past few days and might continue in the future. But this argument is no longer new for Alfredo Ortiz.

In one of his previous articles, he has already mentioned that social media regulation could backfire. Today, his views remain the same.

“Ostensibly, this purge is intended to prevent further violence and rioting. In reality, it is a power grab. No matter their political ideology, Americans must reject this violation of free speech – and recognize that this muzzle may one day be used on them,” Ortiz wrote in his recently published article in fairfieldsuntimes.com.

He also noted that the “coordinated silencing of conservative voices, including President Trump’s, "signals a crossing of the Rubicon in the debate over government involvement to protect free speech.”

The President’s primary means of communication to the public has been removed; social media pages, groups, and accounts with discussions relating to election irregularities and other conservative issues have been deleted; many conservative commentators have lost a number of followers, “inexplicably,” Ortiz commented.

The conservative commentator hoped “that a bipartisan coalition of Americans can rise up to demand tech companies put broad free speech goals above narrow partisan interests.”
