With winter weather off to a good start, avalanches are possible.

According to the Friends of the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center, the mountains near Bozeman and Big Sky have 1 to 2.5 feet of snow, with mountains near West Yellowstone and Cooke City seeing 2 to 3.5 feet of snow as of Nov. 12.

Skiers have already triggered avalanches on Mt. Blackmore and in the Bridger Range. Avalanches can be triggered where recent snow has drifted into thicker slabs.
