Residents on the west side of Bozeman, Montana, are pushing for a public library in their community.

Bozeman is currently examining the possibility of having a library, a rec center and an aquatic center all in one location on the town's west side, according to a 7 KBZK article published Tuesday

The library on East Main is 16 years old, but since its establishment, Bozeman has expanded westward, and the city's west side residents have asked for a library and other facilities.

“Where we know people are starving for library service,” said Bozeman Public Library director Susan Gregory.

Following the closure of the Bozeman Swim Center in 2022, residents have asked the city for more aquatic facilities. In late 2022, city officials announced that plans for a complex were in place, with Gregory saying they were working on securing a property.

Plans are moving quickly, and the first of several public comment periods is Jan. 19 at the Public Safety Center. City officials are unsure of the size and cost of the facility and are seeking public opinions.

"There's a lot of enthusiasm for this project," Gregory said.

The city hopes to have the plan up for a bond question on the November election ballot.
