A man wanted in connection with a van theft was captured after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase west of Butte and is now being held for investigation. The suspect was taken into custody on February 9.

Sonny Reese, age 33, was reportedly wanted in connection with the theft of a van from a hotel in Great Falls. The van had been stolen from the hotel. When the van in question was spotted in the parking lot of the Town Pump in Rocker at approximately 6:30 on February 7th, the Montana Highway Patrol asked for the assistance of the Butte Police Department.

When the police arrived at the scene, it is alleged that Reese got into the van and fled. After passing through Rocker, the pursuit continued in a westerly direction along the frontage road. At one point, the drivers' speeds reached close to 80 miles per hour. On the frontage road, a Butte police officer utilized a tire deflation device, which was successful in deflating some of the tires on the vehicle that was attempting to flee.

At some point, the suspect walked away from the vehicle while it was parked on Dawson Loop. After attempting to flee the scene, he was quickly apprehended by the authorities. Reece is currently facing multiple charges, including one for possession of stolen property, one for criminal endangerment, one for obstructing a peace officer, one for reckless driving while eluding police, and one for an outstanding warrant from Powell County.
