The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is advising people not to eat, sell, or serve any flavor of Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies. Consumers are urged to discard any previously purchased products immediately. These items can be bought online and at retail locations.

The FDA is investigating a series of illnesses linked to Diamond Shruumz-brand products. As of June 11, 2024, twelve illnesses have been reported across eight states, with ten individuals hospitalized nationwide. No deaths have been associated with these products thus far.

The Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is also looking into a potential case in Montana related to this exposure. Reported symptoms after consuming the product include seizures, central nervous system depression (e.g., loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness), agitation, abnormal heart rates, hyper/hypotension, nausea, and vomiting. The FDA is working to identify the cause of these illnesses.

These products may appeal to children and teenagers as they are marketed as candy with flavors such as birthday cake and cookies and cream. Parents and caregivers are advised to discuss this advisory with their children. Any edible product containing mushrooms, THC, or CBD should be stored safely away from children.

“If you become ill after consuming these products, contact your healthcare provider and/or call the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222,” said DPHHS Public Health Physician Dr. Maggie Cook-Shimanek. “Let them know you have recently consumed the Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, and/or gummies.”

The FDA advises retailers not to sell or distribute any flavor of Diamond Shruumz-brand chocolate bars, cones, or gummies and to hold the product in a secure location until further instructions on how to return or safely dispose of it are provided.
