Montana's Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) is urging Medicaid providers to update their enrollment information by December 31, 2024. This step is necessary to ensure uninterrupted payment reimbursement and continued participation in the Montana Medicaid program.
The provider revalidation process, a federally required step, affects over 1,400 Medicaid providers across the state who have not yet updated their information. More than 8,400 providers have already completed this process.
"It’s crucial that all Montana Medicaid providers prioritize this step to ensure timely reimbursement and continued participation in the program," stated Director Brereton.
The revalidation process resumed in August 2023 after being suspended during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency. DPHHS began notifying providers through letters sent 90 days before the due date, with additional reminders at 60- and 30-day intervals. In October 2024, final reminder letters were sent to over 2,400 providers with overdue revalidations. The department also utilized phone calls and posted banners on relevant websites.
Providers who do not complete updates by the deadline risk having their payments suspended. Director Brereton emphasized visiting the Medicaid provider website within two weeks to avoid delays.
Providers can check their revalidation status online via the Medicaid provider website or Provider Services Portal. The process takes about 50 minutes to complete and must be done every five years for eligibility in Montana Medicaid. This requirement is separate from the recent PHE redetermination process that assessed eligibility for approximately 330,000 Montanans enrolled in Medicaid.
