Montana's leading small business association has published the legislative voting records for the state's 150 senators and state representatives. According to the report, 81 legislators achieved perfect pro-Main Street scores.

"We use our voting records on Congress and on state legislators across the country to show the real friends of small business from those who simply say they are," stated Ronda Wiggers, Montana state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), which has represented America's small businesses for 80 years.

"Our voting records come in particularly handy during election time, when our membership and the entire small business community need to make decisions on whom to vote for based on proof, not campaign rhetoric."

The evaluation was based on votes concerning five bills from the 2023 session. These bills addressed issues like business equipment tax, unemployment insurance, product litigation, theft, and marginal income tax rates.

In total, 27 senators and 54 House members earned perfect scores of 100% in support of small businesses. Additionally, six senators and 13 House members scored at 80%, while a few had ratings between 20% to 40%.

"Although I was heartened to see how many lawmakers scored so well," said Wiggers, "it was sad to see a sizable 43 of them racked up zero voting records."

Further details about the bills and each lawmaker’s vote can be accessed online.

For over eight decades, NFIB has been advocating for small and independent business owners across America. The organization operates as a nonprofit, nonpartisan entity dedicated solely to supporting these businesses since its inception in 1943.
