The Montana Motor Vehicle Division (MVD) and County Treasurer's offices are set to introduce a new vehicle services system on March 17, which will revamp the vehicle titling and registration process. In preparation for this launch, all MVD exam stations will close, and County Treasurer offices will halt vehicle transactions from Thursday, March 13 through Sunday, March 16.

The updated system aims to provide more online services, electronic payment options, and quicker transaction times. It is also designed to enhance functionality for law enforcement, car dealerships, insurance companies, and simplify county operations. This initiative marks the final phase of MVD’s Credentialing and Registration System (CARS), an ongoing effort to improve service efficiency at MVD exam stations and county treasurer’s offices across Montana.

“We have had incredible success with the CARS program so far and I look forward to working with counties across the state to make this final rollout a success,” said MVD Administrator Laurie Bakri. “This system will provide the counties with what they need to better serve their customers and improve efficiency.”

Since November, County Treasurer’s offices have been equipped with new technology, and employees have been training on the new system. The combination of updated technology and programmed efficiencies in CARS is expected to facilitate smoother processes for obtaining titles, renewing registrations, and other vehicle-related services.

Customers seeking information on office hours or appointment availability can visit their County Treasurer’s website. For details about MVD exam station hours, https://mvdmt.gov provides further information.

The CARS platform was developed in collaboration with FAST Enterprises. This software solution has been successfully implemented in motor vehicle licensing and registrations across 18 states following a competitive bid process initiated by MVD in 2021. Work on CARS began officially in July 2022.
