Governor Greg Gianforte joined the Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) Director Charlie Brereton to mark Disability Mentoring Week. The event took place on October 15, coinciding with National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), which emphasizes equal job opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

During the event, Helena High School student Layla Riggs visited the Capitol and DPHHS offices. Governor Gianforte expressed his appreciation for businesses and professionals mentoring youth across Montana. "I enjoyed spending time with Layla to learn about her career aspirations and plans for the future," he said.

Riggs also shadowed Director Brereton, gaining insights into DPHHS's mission to enhance health, safety, well-being, and independence in communities. The agency is hosting activities from October 14-18 as part of Disability Mentoring Week, providing career exploration opportunities for youth with disabilities.

Director Brereton highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Disability Employment and Transitions Division (DETD). "This week-long event highlights the great work our Disability Employment and Transitions Division carries out every day of the year," he stated.

Around 95 students from various Montana communities are participating this year. The state has approximately 81,600 residents aged 18-64 with disabilities, with varying levels of labor force participation.
