Great Falls College names three mascot finalists

Great Falls College is down to a top three in its mascot search: River Otters, Electric Elk and Wolverines.

The contest kicked off in early October when the college opened up the process for suggestions and received 590 submissions.

“It has been really fun to see what people come up with,” said Dr. Stephanie Erdmann, CEO and dean of Great Falls College. “We are really excited to see which of the three will be our new mascot.”

The list was narrowed to 130 suggestions once duplicates and submissions that didn't match the criteria were removed.

The college’s Mascot Task Force, comprised of about 20 students, alumni, staff and faculty, then held several rounds of voting until a list of 10 mascots were presented at College Council and 115 students and employees voted for the final three last week.

Next up is for the college’s marketing department to come up with graphic representations for all three of the finalists before a final vote will be held in December. The winner will be announced in January.

The final vote will again be open to the public.

“Great Falls College is northcentral Montana’s community college, and we want everyone to weigh in and feel part of the process,” said Scott Thompson, executive director of community relations at the college.
