Yellowjackets Find Success at Don Holst Open

The Montana State University Billings track and field teams set a number of personal records and season highs, overcoming a late change in location to find success at the Don Holst Open on the campus of Chadron State.

With their plans changed due to weather, the 'Jackets still showed out, regardless of the location. "We showed big improvements from last week." Said coach Jonathan Woehl." We're very happy we were able to get a meet in, even with the less than ideal travel conditions. The team handled the change very well, and we had a very good trip."

For the women's side of things, the 'Jackets were all over the top finishers in nearly every event. Kendall Lynn finished in first place for both the long jump and high jump. Her 5.11m mark in the long jump was just .01m better than Madison Thompson, who finished second and set a new indoor high for herself. Thompson also finished second in the 60m, setting a new lifetime best with a time of 8.09. Mya Richardson was right behind her behind her, finishing third with an 8.12 mark in the 60m.

Tatum hall was the top time in the 60m hurdles, running a 9.52. She also finished second in the 200m, taking time off her season best, and finished third in the triple jump, her first time competing in the event this season. Grace Jones qualified for finals in the weight throw, setting a new PR with a mark of 14.44. Finally, Kailee Stoppel had another successful meet, winning the 800m, and going fourth in the mile despite the short turn around between events.

For the men's team, Ben Ralston set a MSUB top ten for his 60m time, finishing second at the meet with a time of 7.06. He also finished second in the 200m. Ase Ackerman won the mile, finishing with a time of 4:20.17. He finished about nine seconds ahead of the second-place runner. Garrett McMillen was top in the triple jump, winning with a 12.59m mark. Meanwhile, all four MSUB runners for the 800m set a new season best. Carson Jessop led all 'Jackets with a 2:03.11 time to get fourth, with Gaven McColloch, Jackson Bailey, and Kevin Graves finishing behind him.

THE BUZZ:

•    Ackerman was selected as the St. Vincent Healthcare Men's Athlete of the Day.

•    Lynn was selected as the St. Vincent Healthcare Women's Athlete of the Day.

•    Lucas Harper improved his long jump distance once again, finishing with a 5.87m mark good enough for fourth place.

•    Isaac Perkins got his third top ten finish of the season in weight throw, continuing to improve each week in his first season of competition.

•    Mya Richardson and Bella Klein each ran the 400m for the first time this season, finishing in fourth and fifth respectively.

•    Jaida Green made a massive PR improvement, taking her weight throw mark from 10.76m to 11.46m.

•    A trio of women's runners who travelled ahead still competed at Idaho State, the meet the 'Jackets were previously scheduled to travel to. Ally Whitmer set a season best in the mile, and a PR in the 3k. Aspen Tolman also set a season best mark in the 3k.

UP NEXT:  The Yellowjackets compete next at Whitworth University, in a meet taking place between Friday, February 10 and Saturday, February 11. Start times, and results will be found on both the men's and women's team schedule pages.
