U.S. Senate Candidate Tim Sheehy, a GOP candidate in Montana, said that the influx of illegal immigrants is "destroying our country." Sheehy gave his statement to the Big Sky Times on September 20.

"The Biden-Harris-Tester illegal immigrant invasion is destroying our country, and we need leaders with the backbone to do what's right, restore accountability in D.C., finish the wall, and seal the border once and for all," said Sheehy, U.S. Senate Candidate in Montana. "At every turn, Jon Tester has walked in lockstep with the Biden-Harris radical open border agenda, voting for taxpayer-funded flights for migrants, for sanctuary cities, against the Laken Riley Act, against President Trump's border wall, and Tester even voted to dismiss the impeachment trial for Secretary Mayorkas despite being happy to impeach President Trump twice. Montana, it's time for a change."

The House Homeland Security Committee Majority released a report on September 18 titled "Crisis by Design: A Comprehensive Look at the Biden-Harris Administration’s Unprecedented Border Crisis." According to the report, Americans have witnessed "national security, public safety, and humanitarian disaster" at the southern border. The report states that 10.2 million illegal aliens have entered the country in the last four years under the current administration. It also notes there are "roughly" two million gotaways, where Customs and Border Protection was unable to detain individuals.

According to the Homeland Security Committee Report, due to policies at the southern border, cartels and criminal groups now control who crosses the border from Mexico. "It is now nearly impossible to cross without paying them," the report said. Cartels focus on human smuggling, making a majority of their profit from migrants who pay the cartel to help them cross terrain and find correct routes to cross the border.

In June, a group of Montana state representatives wrote "A call for action on the border crisis" in the Western News. The lawmakers expressed concern over illegal immigration in Montana, citing increases in crime, drug trafficking, and sex trafficking. They criticized the Biden Administration's handling of immigration and called for urgent action from the Montana State Legislature to address the crisis at the border. The letter provided examples of other states, like Texas, that have enacted laws to protect local communities.

Sheehy is a husband and father of four, according to his website. He is also a combat veteran who served as a Navy SEAL Officer and Team Leader and has earned decorations including the Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart Medal.
