Fourteen Republican attorneys general told President Joe Biden they are studying legal action on his “unilateral” and “rushed” decision to cancel a permit for the construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, urging him to reconsider it.
The chief legal officers of the various states wrote Biden and said that his action “sets a dangerous precedent for other permits and projects” that affect all states on top of its detrimental results.
“Please be aware that the states are reviewing available legal options to protect our residents and sovereign interests,” the letter read. “In the meantime, we urge you to reconsider your decision to impose crippling economic injuries on states, communities, families, and workers across the country.”
The letter was initiated by Montana Attorney General Austin Knudsen which further said that the “decision should not have been made so hastily.”
Knudsen also said that canceling the permit only contradicts the country’s environmental and energy goals including being energy-dependent, The Epoch Times reported.
“And in terms of global impacts, while you believe this action represents “vigorous climate leadership,” shuttering Keystone XL will only make our allies further dependent on Russian and Middle Eastern oil,” Knudsen added.
The letter was also signed by Attorneys General Steve Marshall (Alabama), Leslie Rutledge (Arkansas), Christopher M. Carr (Georgia), Todd Rokita (Indiana), Derek Schmidt (Kansas), Jeff Landry (Louisiana) Lynn Fitch (Mississippi), Eric S. Schmitt (Missouri), Wayne Stenehjem (North Dakota), Alan Wilson (South Carolina), Jason R. Ravnsborg (South Dakota), Ken Paxton (Texas), and Patrick Morrisey (West Virginia).
